Uh...........conservatism as practiced in this country has a history of being on the wrong side of oppression and disenfranchisement of certain groups.

The Democrats were the main supporters of slavery and then of segregation and Jim Crow. Some of those Democrats were conservative in some ways, others were not. They also (under FDR, no conservative) pushed internment for Japanese Americans.

When Dems supported segregation and Jim Crow so did the Rs.......most whites did. Then the Dems found the right path, and the Dixiecrats jumped to the GOP.

Which is not to say that there is a perfect record for conservatives. The country, both conservatives and progressives, used to be more racist, so individuals of all sorts of political persuations where also more racist. Your "Now I am not talking the ideology but rather the people who promote the ideology" applies to people who promoted all sorts of ideologies including, in fact at times esp. the ideologies more to the left.

But there isn't much connection with the ideas of modern American conservatism and racism, in fact the left in the US is far more about treating people differently based on race.

Yeah, Tim, keep believing that old saw.
