In the US and Canada Facebook now makes $5.18 in annual advertising revenue per user.

I find this amazing - I've never clicked on a FB ad and I think the same is true for most people. Did they give any information about how productive their ad sales may be? What percent of users have clicked on an ad? What percent of those have actually purchased something?

I guess the advertising case may be similar to TV ads - the ads may not actually sell anything, but they get the brand of the advertiser in front of the user, so that's worth something.

It would be interesting to learn the numbers that convince the FB and Google advertisers that they are getting the bang for their buck that convinces them to continue advertising in these spots.
