There well may be a correlation---Is there a causation?
I would have to read the entire paper (and they charge $$$ for the pleasure) before drawing any conclusions on causation.

I'm just encouraged that someone is doing this kind of research..

It's going to require a lot more research, but the logic underlying the premise remains pretty solid..

All plants that produce Chlorophyll require trace amounts of Iron.. That includes phytoplankton.

We've see 40% reductions in phytoplankton levels over the same period of time we've seen 50% increases in atmospheric CO2.

We've all seen reduced fishery harvests and dying coral reefs over the same period of time. The AGW crowd would have us believe it's due to acidifying oceans.

I would submit, instead, that it's a oceanic famine. You can't reduce the most fundamental base/foundation of the Marine Food by 40% and not see a dramatic impact on Marine life..

The question that remains to be answered is whether it's due to an Iron deficient ocean environment?
