For CA, the prices were in the $5s and $6s per gallon.
I've never seen $5/gallon in CA. Maybe once, at one gas station I never go to.

It was on the NBC News several times during the year............they would show a gas sign from CA showing $5 per gallon:

CA Station Sells Gas For $5 A Gallon

huffingtonpost.com

I don't know why that chart shows such high prices in 2008.

Uh........because that's where prices were at in 2008.

Either way, that was a temporary spike up, not "the new normal" as we're seeing today.

it was a temporary spike only because Bush's Great Recession started in 2008. Thanks to Rs the US was a mess in 2008.
