Here is a link to the story on DRAM pricing: techweb.com. But DRAM prices have nothing to do with DD prices. Not yet, anyway.

The Koreans and Taiwanese targetted that market, and built built built (and then built some more) with the notion that they would either take it over as they did with other consumer electronics markets, or that they would at least have a dominant market share. They didn't realize that not only were there more companies in that market that wouldn't just roll over and die, but that the market was technologically different from TVs and VCRs, requiring much more intensive R&D and capital spending than the commodity markets that they and other Asian countries had so successfully targetted before. So they have flooded the market, destroyed it, and tell the IMF that they don't need lectures they just need more money.
