There is a fallacy in that logic, and it is here: "Everyone is in, everyone pays a fair rate, and we have enough money in the system to take care of people when they need it.” This is just not a correct statement. There is nothing "fair" about having a 27-year old pay double for health insurance so that people who are 55 can have less expensive insurance. The 27 year old receives no intrinsic value for having paid double. And when he becomes 55 he will be far worse off as a result of it. That he doesn't realize he is being taken advantage of yet is beside the point.
