Not according to (R) political consultant Lee Atwater, who knew exactly what he was talking about. Republicans eagerly adopted all the southern racists abandoned by the (D)'s, and election results since the 1960's clearly reflect that.

(R)'s used to be the party of Lincoln, but Lincoln would not be a Republican today, and would be horrified by current Republicans.
