The problem is that politicians seem to favor regulation -- regardless of party -- when it is politically convenient.
Of course Bush got the blame for it, but the reality is the root of the problem was with Clinton and Robert Rubin. Rubin is a criminal. Not only was he responsible for the firing of Born, during the collapse of Enron he had the fucking balls to call up the Bush White House and ask them to mislead investors while Citibank recouped its money BEFORE the collapse. This was a criminal act for which a normal person, or even Martha Stewart, would have been sent to prison. No one batted an eyelash.
Bush was probably the most straight shooting president of the century, at least back to TR. Absolutely honest and above board. He has taken the blame for it all, gracefully, setting a new standard for ex-presidential behavior. (OMG, can you imagine what a scumbag Obama will be as an ex-president?)
Seldom is blame for a president as clear as it is, for example, with Obamacare. We know, without any doubt, that Obama and Reid destroyed our health care system and that will forever be on them. We do know that Bush made the decision to invade Iraq, and he gets the blame for it had it not turned out well (fortunately, he also had the good sense to fix the problem before he left office). |
