Hi i-node; Re: "As young people start having their standards of living destroyed by these programs, and old farts like you have your incomes threatened, you may not see it as quite so hilarious. While I've long maintained that it will take a long time for young people to become aware of it, I wouldn't want to be counting on those benefit checks, because these 20 somethings will be coming of age in a decade. If you're still around, you might find the money dries up rapidly.";

The only young people who will care will be the ones who are actually working. The ones who are on the public tit for one reason or another will continue to vote Democratic. The best the Republicans could hope for (or better, the Tea Party which is the small government branch of the Republicans) is maybe 55% of the youth vote. And it takes quite some time for people who've got propaganda all their life to reject it.

Meanwhile, something very different from the situation in 1934 is going on. The post baby-boom generations of Americans aren't having nearly as many babies. That means that the voting "center of gravity" has pushed a lot older than it was. And that means that the oldsters will dominate elections more and more as time goes on and the population ages. Part of the effect is that old folks are more likely to vote and as the promise of "Hope and Change" decays into crap you can be sure that young folks will return to their traditional apathy.

So the bad news is that the government giveaways for old people are probably locked in until the society collapses. But if you look at what Obama did to young people, it seems like maybe the result will be that more and more burden will be put onto their shoulders.

Basically we're following the Europeans down the toilet. However, the good news is that we're delayed from them by maybe 20 or 30 years. So Europe really hasn't collapsed yet, we probably have *at least* 20 or 30 years. Only Greece is showing cracks.

One of the big differences is that their populations, especially that of Greece, are collapsing much faster than ours. Of course that means they'll be moslem in about 50 years but it seems likely that it will be German / French / etc. speaking moslems and so I doubt they'll make much of a united front with the Arab speaking peoples. Uh too bad I won't be around to see if I'm right on that.

P.S. I'm beginning to see the lefty point about Obama being a right-wing plant. If he weren't so incompetent, the trip down the bowl would be more efficient. I think that over the long run, he will be thought of as Jimmy Carter II and will put the Republicans into power for a generation.
