Zeuspaul,

I respect your more moderate views - I just wish I could share your optimism re trends being already in place etc. I do not believe that we can afford to wait 50-100 years for the definite scientific answer as to what causes global warming, and it angers me to see politicians sit on their hands until the scientists can tell them *exactly* what the problem is. The essence of leadership is the ability to take responsible action on incomplete information...

Radical means may lead to non-radical results, and vice versa. I do not advocate outlawing cars, steaks, fireplcaes, or anything else. Taxation and subsidies are the means by which a democratic, free-market government can (and should) steer a nation's economic development - but most countries tax & subsidize all the wrong things, for reasons of political expediency. All I ask is that our governments start taxing or subsidizing things according to whether they're bad or good for us, our children and grandchildren. If such a common-sense proposal is seen as radical, this speaks volumes about the sorry state of politics in our countries.

Take care,

- nic
