I have no idea on the actual timing. I mean history has been happening in an accelerated pace so things that used to take 20-30 years to happen probably only need 5-10 years nowadays. My overall thesis is that

1) there needs to be massic industry consolidation before profitability becomes apparent
2) there is no industry standards so it is still the wild west out there - no clear winners
3) the logical result from 1) and 2) is that many 3D printing companies will fail and 3-4 will inherit the earth/sharing in relative equality of the spoils
