I really don't see how you view these as similar circumstances.

It's easy. I just start from the notion that a crime leads to violence just because it is illegal, not because it is wrong and evil.

Since you don't see marijuana use as anything more harmful than, say, drinking sugary soda, you conclude that marijuana leads to violence only because it is illegal.

Never mind the fact that marijuana alters the mind, destroys brain cells, and makes people do extremely stupid things. Never mind the fact that, without the marijuana itself, the perps wouldn't have done stupid things that force cops to take extreme actions to protect themselves and the innocent.

Think all of this bad behavior associated with marijuana will just go away once it's legalized? I'm pretty sure it won't. Then the legalization folks will finally be proven wrong, but it won't matter to them because they already know that Pandora's Box has been opened.
