Just wanted to add my 2¢ here. Amazon search, IMO, is deliberately sucky. I think that is their substitute for in store displays. You use the search to browse for what you want, and they force you to browse stuff you aren't looking for trying to get an impulse buy. Problem is, given the customer demographics, it works. That's why they do it.

From an investment perspective, Amazon is way over rated in my opinion. It will never grow into it's valuation. Eventually investors will realize that and the stock will get slammed. Amazon is Sears in it's catalog years. It is good at exploiting a single customer acquisition function better than anyone else. But, like the Sears catalog, the Amazon online catalog is limited in its ability to retail hard assets or expand customer acquisition and retain customers based on the competitive price model. It's already easy to find better prices than Amazon by picking up the phone or driving to a couple of brick and mortar retail outlets.
