I'm Baaack!!

Ok, here's what I've found:

I've noticed reports from some people here about zips selling. On the other hand, I have reports from Florida, New York City, and Seattle, about Zips not selling. One salesman estimated zips sales were down 20%. Someone else said that people are interested in internals, which they can't get, so the externals are just sitting there not being sold. I honestly don't know if this is bullish or bearish. Short term bearish, since Iomega may be stuck with externals, but some people will interpret this as bullish because of the demand for internals. Fair enough, though I vote (naturally) with the bears.

Meanwhile, SparQ is selling out, according to SyQuest, though certianly not as much as Iomega zips. Obviously a certain portion of the marketplace has not decided that the zip is too much of a standard to buy anything else.

It is now December 12th. One month has passed and the most interesting sound is that of the hound that didn't bark. Namely, no statement of the next millionth zip drive SHIPPED. Lots of people on this thread were asking for that anouncement, but it is not here. Why not? My guess is that Iomega stuffed the channel to report that 10 millionth zip shipped, and now there's excess inventory.

My next post will discuss Tie ratios.
