The death penalty is barbaric to begin with. From many perspectives. But understanding it is barbaric is hard for people who cannot see why i.e. the many complex issues, or like revenge, or do not possess empathy.

It is a simplistic idea for simplistic people which is why almost all western nations have outlawed it and only our most primitive states still do it.

1) Simplistic: recent research guesses 1 in 25 people put to death are innocent! Is that OK? To kill one innocent person for every 24 guilty persons?

2) When we kill people it reflects on our society as barbaric. Yes dangerous people must be separated from society, often for life, but it is barbaric to kill them. Almost all other civilized societies have stopped it. We are one of the few societies left which shows how backward we are.

Many people who we kill are mentally retarded or mentally sick. Civilized people simply don't take out revenge against a mentally retarded person. That is sick. Texas executed a severely retarded person not too long ago.
But it is common.

3) Research has shown it is not a deterrent, so the only reason is revenge. Which makes it really stupid, childish and primitive behavior. Especially if the person is mentally sick! And often that is hard to determine and often the killer is a victim themselves of child abuse. So while we must separate them, we do not need to take revenge out on them.

4) The gov was too eager to execute those people. What was the hurry? Why the eagerness? It plays to this primitive barbaric side of the human species. Too many people in this country seem to enjoy revenge and killing.

Like that nasty lady gov of Oklahoma."<<

I agree with the Governor. What do you find to be mean and nasty about this statement?
"I believe the death penalty is an appropriate response and punishment to
those who commit heinous crimes against their fellow men and women," Fallin
said. "However, I also believe the state needs to be certain of its protocols
and its procedures for executions and that they work."
