5/2/14 Contest update
Small-cap biotechs got the hairy eyeball from investors for yet another week and the Contest median dropped into negative territory, closing down -1.35% YTD (vs. up .70% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index did manage a small gain for the week, closing up .98% YTD (vs. down -1.19% YTD a week ago), as did the Nasdaq Composite Index, down -1.26% YTD (vs. down -2.42% YTD a week ago).
Hit hard by ECYT’s collapse, GENE’s portfolio, now up 14.76% YTD, lost the Contest lead. Taking over first place, is ROCKY’s portfolio, up 27.85% YTD, with GUERL’s portfolio, up 25.66% YTD, in second place and BIOMAV’s portfolio, up 25.12% YTD, moving into third place.
At Friday's close, just 19 of the 46 Contest portfolios were in the black, while 18 of the 46 were beating the NBI. The median Contest portfolio stock (ESPR) is down -6.19% YTD.
