First, the vast majority of the market is still employer controlled, so your past tense "had more" is plain false.

No it isn't. That employer controlled market is now more highly regulated.

Second very low end shitty plans may be taken off the table

A lot more than that. Also even disallowing "low end shitty plans" (which are not the whole or even the largest part of what's banned) is restricting consumer choice and imposing control.

but it appears there will be more competition, for many more customers, with the marketplaces

It appears there will be less. Both because many areas are served by very few insurers in the exchanges (all the way down to only one), and because even where there are many choices all of them have to fit the extensive new regulations. In some places there are many companies but much of the diversity they could offer is disallowed.

Just watched the Derby. Wonder what it would be like if there was little regulation, if you could drug the horses and the jockeys

The majority of regulation in general, and the vast majority of control that comes with the PPACA, in no way resembles "You can't drug the horses". Many neutral or even good options are disallowed. (Also you can drug the horses in the Derby and they do get drugs, drugs are heavily restricted not categorically disallowed.)

The restrictions we put on each other are what define the quality of our civilization.

And most of them reduce it. Fortunately its often by only a modest amount.
