It works until it doesn't. No one who looks are Medicare, SS, and now the ACA -- all of which have worked together to create a budget situation that is "unsustainable", can rationally say they work.

When we are leaving future generations in fiscal disarray that there really isn't a reasonable solution for, it cannot be legitimately claimed these programs "work".

Look, SS failed in 1981 -- 50 years after its inception, and we propped it up. We are now 30 years down the road and it is still failing and will do so. Instead of solving that problem (and GWB offered an excellent approach and even his own party wouldn't support it) we have stood idly by and watched Medicare become 10x the problem Medicare was.

And instead of fixing Medicare, we created yet another economic burden, the ACA, which is just one more instance of a selfish current generation stealing from as-yet unborn children.

I cannot imagine a moral justification a generation has for doing this to its progeny. It is as close to eating one's young as anything I can imagine humans doing.
