Total agreement here, Eric. I was raised with guns, and the first lesson I was taught was to never point one at anything I didn't want to kill. To assume they were always loaded and ready to fire, even if I knew they were not. Never to shoot unless I positively knew where the bullet would end up.

My dad stressed all these things, because as a boy he had shot at a squirrel in a tree with his .22, missed, and ended up hitting a man in the arm about a half a mile away. He apologized to the man, who didn't press charges, and learned a life lesson.

I think the problem with everyone scrambling to get armed is, they don't get that training, they just get the gun(s).
