My own equity investments at this point are pretty much all either biotech or natural gas related (plus some tech stocks like Amazon that I've owned for many years).

I've always been of the opinion that Wall Street is pretty blind to stuff that will happen more than three or four years down the road. If you can find a trend that you are confidant will last beyond that point, then you have a great investment play.

A good local investment where you can ascertain the facts for yourself will almost always beat a stock-market one. But living near Boston I don't see a lot of shale plays around here. :)
