Name the source:

can absolutely assure you that his story of the rich man (In Luke) is taken from pagan sources.

The early and even later Jews had no coherent ideas about the afterlife or hell at all,

In the OT, the word Sheol is used for the afterlife. When the Jews translated the OT into Greek, they used the term Hades uniformly. Thus showing Sheol/Hades were seen as similar or the same.

BTW the Bible teaches that everyone went to Sheol/Hades prior to the crucifixion. It was different for the righteous and the wicked .... some described as reclining in the bosom of Abraham and others described as being in "outer darkness where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth." I know a man who experienced this in a NDE while an alcoholic. While on the cross Jesus told the dying thief that this day (!) you shall be with me in Paradise. From that point on, those who die in Christ rise to Paradise. Others go on to Hades/Sheol as before. Also prior to his resurrection, Christ descended to Hades himself and he did so to "free the captives" there. That means there would have been a mass exodus of the righteous dead from Hades to Paradise at that time. The popular idea of hell ie the lake of fire, doesn't come till after the end of time and the final judgment. Satan, his rebellious angels and all who follow him plus Hades itself will be cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death that destroys both body and soul.
