Jerry
It's strange to be writing to another Jerry! I agree, but what can be done about it is a mystery to me. For example, the title of this thread contains the words "...Longer Term Perspective". I have not seen much discussion of that. There is a short term thread, and it seems that most of the posts on this thread could go there, especially those of persons with short positions.
Perhaps we could have some consensus on what is meant by long term.. a month, a quarter a year, or two years. For me, 6-9 months is short term while 10-24 months is long term. I would appreciate other opinions on this.
If this is a long term thread, when will most begin to discuss SIII's long term perspectives? For example, many seem to feel that the CEO is not very good. OK, what effect will his continued tenure have at SIII? In fact, we need to ask it it is true that Johnson is no good.
The "no design wins" rhetoric is getting old. I cannot believe that SIII engineers have altzheimer's disease and forgot how to design. The question for me is how long before they can develop a competitive, and hopefully best set of products. Where can we get that information? Additionally, how have valuations of company assets been effected by the recent price plunge, and the Asian markets tumble? Just how much cash is left? Where can this be factually established?
I wonder what would happen if a given number of members of this thread agreed on a strategy relative to analyzing SIII. Each member of a "team" would be assigned a different aspect of the issue depending upon his or her talents. Some here seem to be financially oriented, while others are technology wizards. Some have 15-25 years investment experience while others are young and enthusiastic. Some have a great deal of money to invest, others have very little. Regardless, for those whose longer term goal is to profit by investing in this company, it would seem that doing the requisite leg work would be worth it. Let's face it, professional analysts have not been very accurate lately (on most hi tech stocks!). I would guess that those of us who are value investors could actually do a better job than what I have seen lately.
At any rate these are ideas only. If anyone is interested, perhaps we could establish criteria for membership. Or maybe the best thing to do is start another thread where only holders who are willing to disclose their positions are allowed to join. If nothing else, a small cadre could be formed who would be willing to share information rather than mask it behind foolish and sensational statements.
