SANTA CLARA, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- Applied Materials could be the
next casualty in the beleaguered chip-equipment industry as customers in the Asia-Pacific region, formerly cash cows for equipment makers, are led one by one to slaughter.

Mark Fitzgerald, an analyst at UBS Securities, said Hyundai reduced its 1998 capital equipment orders from Applied Materials to the tune of $100 million to $200 million.
