I agree, though 16MP isn't going too far for a high-end cameraphone. As you suggested, features are just as, if not more, important. Face erase, real-time HDR, and many other advanced editing and UI functionality is great to have. The new hire might inspire Apple to add more of this type of thing to the iPhone 6 or 7, which would be a good thing.
