Of course there is a "free" lunch! The albedo of my roof is almost the same as my solar panels. But guess what. My PV's are cooler than the surrounding roof. Do you know why? Since the PV's are converting light into electrons they are actually cooler than my roof. Approximately 12% of the sunlight is immediately converted to electrons, not infrared heat. Don't you just love the physics of that! Eric P.S. I also love the passive solar design that gives me free heat into my home to keep me warm in the winter. Such a deal!
