Caught the latest episode last night. I don't subscribe
to Showtime, so I'm grateful they had a free weekend.

The one jarring note for me was when Mary Anne Hitt
(of the Beyond Coal group) tried to finesse the question
put to her about whether rates consumers would have
to pay would go up as a consequence of building more
renewable power.

The true answer is rates do and will go up due to the switch.
Even though companies might be able to build wind or solar
at the same or lower cost as a traditional coal plant, there is
almost always no utility infrastructure, meaning transmission
lines and substations when they site these plants where
the wind blows best, or the sun shines most often.

We should be truthful to the public on this score. There
are real and significant costs associated with trying to stop
greenhouse gas emissions.
