Well the biggie is Yellowstone, who knows when. Eric, for our portion of the world, the US, it's ONE of the biggies..
But TOBA is the REAL biggie.. It's impact, 70,000 years ago, was GLOBAL.. And it was TWICE as big as the last Yellowstone eruption..
You're worried about a 1-3degC rise in global temperatures by 2100?? Given another TOBA eruption, like the last one, we would likely see GLOBAL temperatures DECLINE by 3-6 deg C within A YEAR..
And I'm telling you, based upon the reports I've read here in Indonesia, it could literally erupt at any time.. Especially with all the tectonic activity occurring along the fault line here.. Remember the Aceh earthquake that created the huge Tsunami wave there and in Phuket?
Rovicky added that the magma chamber inside the volcano could erupt any time if the Sumatra fault line reactivated.
The Sumatra fault line bisects Sumatra Island from the northwest in Aceh to the south in Lampung. The fault line runs through Mount Toba.
“A quake could reactivate the magma chamber which is so far dormant. That’s why we believe Mount Toba could erupt again at any time. When it will be, we don’t know. Thorough and continuous research is needed to find that out,” said Rovicky. thejakartapost.com
It's right on the Sumatra Fault Line.. And they've been having some very heavy tectonic activity on it recently..

So yeah.. Yellowstone is bad.. But Toba's potential for threatening human and animal life far surpasses it.
