JP,

May I add?

In October Oppenheimer and JPA published a report on the
3D Graphics market.

Two aspects:

1. Projected Growth of 3D graphics Chip Market (millions
of units worldwide).

1996 (Actual) 15
1997 (est.) 41
1998 (est.) 82
1999 (est.) 114
2000 (est.) 142

Considering the recent meltdown in Asia the growth may not be
as strong as projected, but strong growth there will be.

2. Market Share 3D Graphics Chip Segment (1996 and first
half 1997 respectively)

S3 40.24 % 46.35 %
Matrox 29.36 % 20.65 %
ATI 17.74 % 26.03 %
3DLabs 2.54 % 1.06 %
NEC 2.47 % 2.34 %
Nvidia 1.97 % gone
3DFX 1.62 % 1.27 %
Cirrus 1.33 % 1.94 %
SGS 1.19 % gone
Rendition 1.19 % 1.05 %
Yamaha 0.27 % gone
Artist Graphics 0.09 % gone
Trident 0.14 %
Intergraph 0.14 %
Dynamic Pictures 0.04 %
Real 3D 0.00 %

Share of installed base of Graphics:

S3 46 %
Matrox 26 %
ATI 22 %
Others 6 %

Let me ask you, given the current softer hi-tech market, if
sales growth slows down, which companies will suffer more the
ones with then larger market shares or those with the smaller
or real small ones?

And when that happens will it be good news or bad news
for the survivors?

No doubt that there will be new products coming out in the
first qtr and the second qtr. The fruits of those new product
releases though we may not see until qtr 3. So what. If that
means the stock will go from 5 to 15 by the end of next year,
that would be still pretty good.

I do concur that management and the Board should be
more forthcoming with information. Not doing so diminishes
their chances of getting re-elected.

JMHO
