Part of it is demographics.

Median age of a person in Denmark is 41.4 years. In the US the number is 36.8 years. This means that, relative to the total population, there are a lot more young people in the US than Denmark. Hence competition lowers wages in the US. Data sources for the median ages:

The same data implies that Denmark's welfare system will have its final crash years before ours does.
