>> What Dave won't acknowledge is that SS is working through a temporary demographic problem

There is no indication the problem is temporary. But at least you admit it is a problem.

It is a Ponzi scheme and will fail. It is just a question of when.

Were it a mere demographic problem the 75 year planning horizon would not be a 10 trillion dollar problem since baby boomers will be dead by then.

It is an actuarial problem. The first recipient of SS paid in a total of less than $25 and drew some $20,000 in benefits before she died. Today, people are living far longer than then. And they will live far longer in the future.

The system does not work, has never worked, and cannot be fixed. FDR himself acknowledged that ". . . if these programs become a burden to future generations then they will have failed." He was right then, and it has played out exactly like that.
