I went to Internet World at Javits today and I was impressed

First the attitude. The attitude was confidence in the products. We have something to sell, take a look.

Second the presence. Those Novell web/email stations alla COMDEX were well .....ubiquitous. The guards had to keep people back in line on the outside of the Hall access stations. People love web access. They will join a line to get to Novell machine. (Whoever came up with this idea at Novell should get a bonus. Now all you have to do is hand the people in line a cup of Novell coffee.)

Third the reaction I got when I went to other booths and asked about Novell. To a lot more people than last year Novell is seen as a potential player and a developer of performance products. For example IBM was demoing esuite on Sun systems. They admitted they hadn't tested the products extensively with a Novell platform. When I asked why, they said that they were leaving this to Novell. (It appears IBM is running esuite on net PCs, and targeting the legacy dumb terminal system replacement market for esuite). But they mentioned that Novell had endorsed and participated in the roll-out of Esuite. AND IN PARTICULAR THEY VALUED ERIC SCHMIDT'S ENDORSEMENT OF THEIR PRODUCT. They played a video taped message he sent them at their roll-out. That is the difference in a nutshell between last year and this year. Novell has got a lot more respect with Schmidt at the helm.

I think NOVL has come back a great deal from last year. I actually enjoyed visiting the Novell booth. These performance issues are not passing unnoticed amongst the opinion makers.

More later on what this means to us re: the stock, which is of course the important question.
