Racism has it's roots in ignorance and fear. There will always be a few individuals who are ignorant of one thing or another, either by their own design or because they have been excluded from experience. The system is not working for the population of people it was originally targeting at the start of the civil rights era, but it isn't because of racism. If it was working, we would have seen some improvements right away and major improvements over time so that from the 50's until now (65 years) we would be declaring a victory. Whole ethnic cultures (ex: Vietnam Boat People) have risen from poverty to mainstream success in less than two decades

Of course everyone wants a better life, it is ingrained in the human condition. People who have lost hope fall into a condition of despondency and start to exhibit the loathsome conduct of feral creatures.

Conditions have worsened. The protections from discrimination, enablements like affirmative action and Equal Opportunity are major boosts. Welfare funding should never be looked at as anything but a temporary support for people who want a better life. So why have conditions worsened from the 1950s until now? At what point do you begin to deal with the fact that the system is counter productive for some people and it can't be explained away by pointing your finger at the few remaining white racists. Racism isn't tolerated and affirmative action is endorsed and promoted in all sectors of society except those which don't have an impact on the on mainstream culture. The only actual instance of racism I've seen is your attacks on Condi Rice, and I guarantee you are not going to hold her down. That may be the only legitimate kind of racism still alive, bashing conservative black people for succeeding. The mainstream wants to see black culture thriving and living well, the system is just not helping to bring that about.

At what point do you begin to admit the system we have set up is a failure? That is the point at which you could begin to help change things for the better.
