Ted, Harold Meyerson is making the classic mistake of equating correlation with causation. Many people in the comments section of his column pointed out the fallacies of his argument.

Personally, I don't think an increase in the minimum wage to something like $9.50/hour will have much of a negative effect, but the left is calling for a $15/hour minimum, which is crazy. At that point, businesses will be forced to lay off workers because they cannot afford such a huge increase in labor costs.

Not only that, but prices for just about everything will start rising. That will hurt the poor and middle class the most.

Finally, I don't get the notion that, if someone is willing to work for less, that equals labor exploitation. Many people would love to have a job that pays something than no job, which is guaranteed to pay nothing.
