You're correct; the period selected is instrumental to the point you're making. If you're trying to argue that AAPL has been outpacing market expectations over the past few months, citing its equity gains versus the market over that period is relevant, but citing its underperformance over a couple years or its outperformance over many years isn't so much.

I cited 20 months because it was what MGV used as his period to claim that AAPL has been a good investment. I could have used a shorter or longer period to make a similar point, but I wanted to address what he said precisely.
