In another word, let the market economy rules, no government intervention, no government subsidy, open the market to competition. In Dana Adam's words, may the strong and able survive, may the weak and short die (ggg).

About more than 10 years ago, the U.S. car industry was just about to collapse. Even though there were some government intervention (loan to Chrysler, import quota), it was pretty much left to the domestic car industry to fend off the foreign imports. Thanks to the free competition, the quality and safety of U.S. car has improved quite a bit in the last few years and the U.S. cars can now compete with the imports.
