SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Macworld magazine, the premier
monthly publication for Macintosh-product buyers, today announced the
finalists for the 1997 Editors' Choice Awards. The "Eddy" award is the
Macintosh industry's most respected honor, recognizing the best Macintosh
hardware and software products released during the year, as well as the
individuals who have had a significant impact on the industry.
"The Eddys have a long standing tradition of celebrating the innovative
spirit of the Macintosh and represent an industry hallmark for outstanding
technological achievement," said Andrew Gore, Macworld editor-in-chief. "I'm
pleased to say that this year's finalists carry on the tradition of technical
excellence that has always been the cornerstone of the Macintosh platform."
The 1997 Eddys will recognize product excellence and innovation in 41
categories, with 3 awards honoring individual achievement and 4 recognizing
overall technological excellence. Among the 33 product categories on this
year's Eddys roster, over half will honor technical innovation and excellence
in the content creation areas of graphic arts, pre-press, digital video and
Web-publishing.
"The 1997 Eddys reflect the growing industry focus of the Mac platform on
the digital media production arena as evidenced by the increasing number of
product categories recognizing innovation in digital video, Web-publishing and
high-end systems," noted Colin Crawford, CEO and president of Mac Publishing,
L.L.C.
Additionally, this year, the thirteenth annual Eddy Awards, marks the
first time that an entire category will be devoted to recognizing Mac
developer tools. The four developer awards will be presented in conjunction
with MacTech magazine, the leading developer journal in the industry.
"Obviously, recognizing the developer community is essential to fostering
growth and identifying emerging technologies which will become the future
standards and building blocks for the Macintosh platform," said Neil Ticktin,
publisher of MacTech magazine. "We're delighted to be part of the most
prestigious award program in the industry and that Macworld is honoring these
important contributions in the development arena."
The Eddy Awards, traditionally held the eve before Macworld Expo opens in
San Francisco, will be presented at an industry gala on January 5 at Bimbo's
365 Club, one of The City's landmarks as well as a San Francisco night club
institution. Additional information on the 1997 Editors' Choice Awards can be
found on the magazine's Web site at www.macworld.com.
