It's a misnomer to call all philosophers "religious figures". You'd only do that if you have an agenda, and needed to mislead people to further it. But that's par for the course for many of the religious. It's why so many folks in this country believe in an invisible "friend", but can't imagine how science could be true... Americans. Stupidest people on the planet? Not quite, probably, but close. Geez- 75% of Italians believe in evolution, and they've got the Pope living there. What percentage of Americans "believe" in evolution- and by "believe" science doesn't mean "worship" or "believe it's absolutely true and you will go to hell if you doubt"- it just means- do you "believe" in evolution like you "believe" in something like, oh say, blood groupings, or the carbon cycle- in other words, do you "believe" it, until something comes along to replace it- something TESTABLE- and the percentage of Americans who can comprehend evolution is... 40% in the latest survey I saw. Less than any other industrialized nation. Sad.
