And you seem to have missed the point of the article. Which was, Mann was unwilling to debate the issue. As you would expect, because he doesn't want to have to defend his position.

Do you know of other "scientists" who have refused to present their views on a public stage because they were unwilling to defend their own views against attacks from those with different views?

This is more a political tactic than a scientific one; liberals are very much afraid of facing rational argument because their views cannot be supported on a rational basis. Do you really think it is healthy to put this global warming argument in the same context?

If Mann wants to put forth his views, I see no reason he SHOULDN'T be called upon to defend them against the views of people who see things differently.
