I've answered your silly question in numerous ways. It is a multifaceted question which deserves a scholarly answer, which I am not prepared to provide. It involves economics, benefits, resources, cultural norms, fears, history, and more. When people feel completely free to make decisions on how to live their lives, a balanced representation results. Obviously the majority feel obligated to the Dem party, which you have made clear they should be. Those who don't are treated as if they have escaped the plantation (I've borrowed that characterisation, which appears to be accurate). I personally find this sort of authoritarianism to be unnatural and wrong.
