People are much more mobile than in the past. We are watching the country become much more sectionalized not only in the physical sense but in the ideological sense. The North Eastern Liberals talk about Texas like it is an enemy state. When laws can be passed by one section of the country and enforced in another where they hardly apply, you see the same set up starting to take place which was present at the start of the American Revolution, where laws enforced in America benefitted England but caused hardship in the colonies. This was also the primary cause of the Civil war, slavery was not an issue at the onset.

The English became more and more hardened against the complaints and the colonists became more and more determined in the process.

Gun control is probably the most obvious example. I can see how heavily policed sections of the NorthEast urban strip would benefit by reducing the number of guns held by inner city gangsters. However, when Bloomberg came to Colorado to pay off legislators, it resulted in the recall of two left wing politicians corrupted by the money flow; and created a pretty serious dialogue on the subject of Colorado Representatives who are subject to influence from outsiders. Outsiders, like Shep and tejek are no less arrogant, uninformed, or concerned for the needs of average people than mad king George was in colonial times.

As far as setting up another country, it appears to me this is already happening to some extent within the borders of the country we have. Mostly conservatives moving away from liberal strong holds. Then we see the liberal centers beginning to simultaineously degrade.
