Hi Brumar89; I think the explanation for why the White House was so out of tune on the Bergdahl trade is that they admire his anti-war position. To the extreme left, Bergdahl really is a hero, more than any other soldier. They knew exactly what the guy had done, heck I was a aware that he'd deserted it was all in the news some years ago.

They're all in favor of war protestors. To them, that's true blue Americans. These are people who, deep down, loathe the military and are so stupid that they cannot understand how anyone could see things differently. They still can't figure out where it went wrong, they're just reacting to polling data, LOL.

And they really see the captured Taliban as "prisoners of war" morally equivalent to any other soldier (and superior to our own) even though they were not soldiers for any nation and they completely ignore any violations of the Geneva conventions committed by the other side.

And I loved the sequence of incompatible explanations they came up with. It's like listening to a child explain why he stole something or hit somebody. As each excuse fails, they come up with another. My favorite is that they didn't tell Congress because Congress had already shown its disapproval around 2010. Because they are so insulated from the opinions of normal people, they can't come up with an excuse that flies. Honestly, there is not a single person at the White House who could have told them it was going to be a disaster.
