Speak your mind, I welcome an honest intelligent debate.

I don't think the south is thriving. It is the poorest part of the country and among the least educated, has the lowest number of people with health insurance and uses much more federal aid (ironically) than the north. The north gets back less in federal taxes than it pays and the south gets back more (ironically considering how they campaigning against it) than they pay.

As far as globalization goes, there is another way of thinking about these things. Social science. We are still evolving very fast in terms of our awareness and social science. We are the richest country on the earth and can afford to take care of our people if we wish to.

People/voters have to start thinking in terms of how we want our society to function. In a democracy that is how we do it. The total wealth of the US is huge, but we are allowing the plutocrats to take most of it at the expense of the rest of society e.g grazing cattle, or drilling for oil, cutting timber, etc on public lands at very low costs.

We can pass laws that force the rich to pay their fair share of taxes, e.g. not allow them to hide trillions off shore, etc. And use that money to fund things like free pre school for every kid in the country. If we did that one thing we would see a huge decline in crime and a huge increase in productivity.

But we are not applying smart modern ideas and social science because the Republican's block our efforts to do so at every turn. As mentioned the reason is the plutocrats have told the "low information voter" to vote for them as they are like them i.e. god, guns and gay bashing, etc. Which of course they are not, they are just using them. And then they take advantage of them when they do. Like bust all the unions in the south.

Those car companies in the south could afford to pay their employee's more than they do and pay more local taxes. They are getting away with pennies on the dollar. And they will never pay more than they have to and there is the rub.

Society has the right to decide how it wants to function. We need to shape society according to how the people want, not according to how the plutocrats want.

I actually think that the models that foreign manufacturers are using in the Southern states may be the best way to go. The workers seem to thrive and the manufacturers seem to thrive.

The workers and the companies both seem to have incentives to excel.>>
