Lost iPad success story:

I always am very careful with my possessions but this past weekend I was at my son's big basketball tournament (6 courts going at the same time = lots of teen boys running around) and my iPad Air was stolen out of my bag after I left it alone for maybe 2 minutes.

I never thought I would have to use the Find iPhone App and it took me a few minutes to find it and log on. I had the pass code turned off at the time and the cellular was also turned off. But, in the Find iPhone App, I checked "lost" which added the passcode should someone try and log on so my data was secure. I also checked "play message" with my cell phone number in case a responsible parent was at the other end. (They weren't.)

It took a little over 24 hours before someone tried to access the iPad (at which time the alarm would have sounded) and I received an email with a map of its location. I had already filed a police report on Saturday, and called police dispatch (it was stolen in Beaverton and the iPad was in Portland which complicated things somewhat). I met the officer near the address shown on my iPhone only to find out it was a small apartment complex. It wasn't looking good. However, the office knocked on the first door and asked about basketball players living in the complex and a few were pointed out. Additionally, there was a little girl playing outside and asked the officer what he was doing. With a little discussion, the little girl disclosed that her older brother was a basketball player and that he had a new "iPod" that had indeed made a very big noise. The officer knocked on the little girl's apartment door and the mother answered (the father and son were gone - probably at the basketball tournament) and after some discussion, the mother handed the iPad over.

I am assuming that the teen boy stole it but, ironically, the father is also a referee so either one of them could have taken it. I am not sure what happens to them from here but I got my iPad back in good order (other than being really grimy) and all is well.
