The economic situation when Reagan took office was systematically atrocious. Fed policy helped, good tax policy helped, and Reagan brought unemployment down because the country recognized that adults were running the show. Unemployment peaked about two years after he took office. Contrast that with the six year ordeal Obama has put us through (and he isn't finished yet).
