Nice try but the big pcture is more complicated.

Some data for you to chew on:

1st Quarter 97:1.638 Billion in revenues
$2800/unit
585,000 units

2nd Quarter 97:1.69 Billion in revenues
$2600/unit
650,000 units

$200 less per unit(7%less) and 11% increase in units

Take a look at Dell's second Quarter report(@Dell's home page)
and pay close attention to the "Margins"

What makes Dell's management worth watching is improving margins on the quarterly reports.

If Dell's costs go down by $300/unit and Dell reduces prices by $250/unit to the customer Dell will increase unit sales and profits.

My point, Dell's cost/unit are critical and Dell's inventory being low is critical to capitalize on price reductions from the component suppliers that other box makers may not be able take advantage of.

It's a complicated world!
