On that basis (i.e., it will be hard) we would never have gotten involved in fighting Nazis in WWII.

I'm not sure how much of an ally they are for Iran, but yes, point A appears to be true. One could not have reasonably anticipated that Bush's successor would have been someone who would walk away from it as Obama has. THAT is the problem.

I would also that the long-term outcome remains to be seen. But it certainly doesn't look good at the moment.
