Correction the violent schism between Shnnies and Shias is about 1400 years old and has been really bad continually since the 600s. The only times or places where there is relative stability is when a brutal tyranny, or western democracy is in place to quash one side or the other, or both. Curds have had times of peace with the others. Saladin (Salah ad Din) a Curd, was the leader of Muslims during the crusades and had a very admirable character... not much since.
