This link from that article is worth reading separately. I never believed the Vietnam analogy; but the abandonment does have a Vietnam-esque feel to it. Had the president made the case for a continued American presence there would have been support for it but he was not about to go there. He wanted to wash his hands of it and he is going to end up blood soaked.
