It was an inappropriate attempt to "pull rank." Either to suggest he had a strike against him in some strategic maneuver or to discount his appearance due to poor manners. If so, it backfired. She came across as petty, tight ass'd and arrogant, whereas he came across as humble yet qualified. Other wise she is perfectly within her rights to request to be addressed in such a manner.
