Scott, The advantage, initially, to JTS in using MIG heads is simply cost. In other words, delivering a product that provides similar performance to the competition while using much cheaper components. Its a mark of design excellence that JTS' design team could squeeze that much out of the R/W channel using old technology heads. I am curious where they get their MIG heads though. It was my understanding that the last large supplier, a Hong Kong company named Kaifa, had exited the product line. In any case at some point JTS has to step up to the bar. And other companies will have the lead in handling the higher technologies. And when JTS does step up they will face the decision of whether to continue with their strategy and step "up" to thin-film inductive heads, or bypass and go directly to MR heads. Either way it will cost a lot of money to capitalize new equipment etc. I frankly don't see a future for JTS. What they tried was a bold venture, but they have missed the target in a game where only a bulls eye lets you live.
